Poppy Seeds
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup Milk
- 1/2 kilo Ground Poppy Seed
- 207g Sugar
- 1/2 cup Sultanas
- 1 tbs Butter
- 2/3 tsp Vanilla Essence
Method:
- Heat milk in saucepan to boil
- Once boiled add ground poppy seeds
- Stir in sugar
- Stir in sultanas
- Mix in Butter and Vanilla Essence
Dough
- 500ml (2 & 1/4 cup) Milk
- 400gm (2 cups) sugar (to taste)
- 1084g Plain Flour (sifted)
- 53g Yeast
- 2 eggs
- 2 additional egg-yolks
- 3 pinches Salt
Method:
- Combine Milk and sugar in a large non-metalic bowl
- Place in microwave for 1min till warm
- Stir in Yeast until dissolved
- Mix in Flour and eggs
- add salt
- Put bowl over saucepan with water seperated by a tea towel
- Need dough, then allow to rise
- Once risen, do a 2nd need and start using!
- Leave till dough rises
Advice on needing in the video below;
Getting it all together:
- Roll dough out into half-cm (or slightly thicker)
- Cut out (using a wide mug / glass ) … dip the rim of the glass/mug in flour to stop the dough from sticking to it when cutting the circles out out
- Enlarge the circles with your hands and put some filling in there
- Close up by bringing all the edges to a central point and pinch so it doesn’t come apart
- Cook in hot oil (low-medium heat) for roughly 4-5 mins, so it’s ideally light-brown on the outside, and cooked right through
